The perfect play has arrived for theratres that are forced to mount a play on very short notice! It's happened to many theatre companies! You're all set to open a show and one of the following scenarios happens. Actors walk out, actors get sick, the rights to the play getS rescinded! Your left having to mount a production on very short notice so what do you do? 1) You can cancel the production. 2) You can substitute one of those plays where actors just sit there and read letters to each other. 3) You have actors wear ear buds or simply carry the book in hand! WELL YOUR PROBLEMS ARE SOLVED! 'Back up Play' is a comedic send up of all those scenarious! Small cast, no actor memorization required. Act 1 takes place in the office of a producer whose cast has just walked out on him! He now has just one week to mount a production or lose the front money he's placed for the publication rights and theatre rental! The dialoge is totally driven by off stage voices coming through the intercom or speaker phone with the on stage actors reading from their lines from a computer or day planner or sometimes picking up a stabler to read a line on the bottom. All these bits are woven into the fabric of the play! Act 2 is a series of one act plays culled from my 7 by Simonelli catoulouge which can be read script in hand. EVERY THEATRE SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST ONE COPY OF 'BACK UP PLAY' IN THEIR LIBRARY!
